Cruises

People can go on cruises to see coral atolls and also see dolphins and turtles, which are also a common sight in the Maldives.

 


Night Diving

Tourists are able to go night diving to see corals open up and extend tentacles in the evening and spiders and shrimps leave their sponges in search of food. This activity is done by moonlight which gives a different view compared to daylight diving. 

Seaplane Tours

This offers tourists a view of the islands from above and gives a complete tour of the country. These seaplanes can also take tourists to the atolls and offers one of a kind views.


Local Music and Folk Performances

The Maldives are a very festive country and they celebrate all traditional Muslim festivals such as Ramadan and Kuda Eid. Local performances can also be seen on some islands but locals aren’t allowed to come into contact with tourists unless it’s on a show island. 


Snorkeling in Lagoons

You can go snorkeling in the clear waters of the lagoons to see sharks, turtles, anemones, octopus, rays and all kinds of tropical fish. 


Visiting Coral Reefs

There are about 70 different species of coral reefs and there are about 1190 coral islands scattered throughout the Maldives. 700 species of tropical marine life call this place home such as butterfly fish, parrotfish, unicorn fish and blue stripe snapper. While scuba diving, tourists can also see sharks, stingrays and manta rays.

 


Arts and Crafts

Raw materials that are found locally are carved and produced into craft products, but now that Maldivians are more environmentally aware, there has been less products made with tortoise shells and black coral. However, tortoise shell ornaments, red mats and flower vases are some of the things that can be bought at local bazaars.
